SEC's geospatial rising star
Project leader of Digital Undergound, Rob van Son, has been recognised for his outstanding accomplishments in advancing geospatial technology.

Rob van Son, project leader of the Digital Underground project at the Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC), is named one of the Geospatial World 50 Rising Stars. The award highlights the outstanding accomplishments of young individuals who are proactive and passionate about the value of geospatial technology to the economy and society and who are well on their way to redefining next-generation geospatial leadership.
Rob has been working on establishing a reliable map of subsurface utilities in Singapore, under the Digital Underground project, in collaboration with the Singapore Land Authority, with the support of leading industry parties. The project was awarded "Excellence in Subsurface Mapping" at the GEOBIM conference on 3 December 2020.
Beyond conducting practical research under Digital Underground, Rob also co-founded Digital Underground Connect - a community of practice on the topic of underground digital twins, contributing to the development of knowledge and skills of professionals in Singapore and beyond.
