Digital Underground wins GEOBIM award
The Digital Underground project, in collaboration with Singapore Land Authority, is recognised for excellence in subsurface mapping at the geospatial and BIM conference.
The Digital Underground project was awarded for "Excellence in Subsurface Mapping" at the GEOBIM conference on 3 December 2020.
The annual external page GEOBIM award recognises and celebrates organisations for their exemplary use of digital innovation and practices across the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry, specifically these sub-sectors: residential architecture, subsurface mapping, roads and highways, rail infrastructure and digital cities.
The Digital Underground project at the Singapore-ETH Centre, which won the award for subsurface mapping, is a partnership with the Singapore Land Authority. The research-to-application initiative on subsurface utility mapping aims to improve planning and management of the underground space.
The use of laser solutions, ground penetrating radar (GPR), RFID markers, and gyroscopic mapping to develop a single consolidated digital twin of the underground utilities showcases leadership of higher digital technology maturity.
The project is currently in its second phase and has produced the guide external page Digital Underground: Towards a Reliable Map of Subsurface Utilities in Singapore at the end of its first phase in 2019.

This year's GEOBIM conference is themed "Construction 4.0 Harnessing GEOBIM Readiness with 4IR Advancements", to initiate dialogues on the preparedness in using integrated geospatial and BIM technologies along with other digital technologies (or 4IR technologies) and collaborative workflows in the AEC sector.
