YIK Sin Kang

Research Assistant of Cooling Singapore

Sin Kang joined the Cooling Singapore team in 2020 as a research assistant under the climate and vegetation pillar. His role includes the micro-scale modelling of vegetation in urban environments to investigate its cooling effects and impact on outdoor thermal comfort.

Through models such as EnviMET, Sin Kang and his team aims to identify the most effective tree typologies and efficient orientation of greenspaces to maximize their cooling effect in tropical urban spaces.

Sin Kang graduated from the National University of Singapore with a major in Geography and minor in Geosciences. Through his education, he gained a firm foundation in atmospheric sciences and climate change issues. He also worked as a part-time research assistant at the Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI), where he produced flood-risk maps for major Southeast Asian cities based off global climate model data.
