Dr Juan Angel ACERO
Dr Juan Angel Acero has a PhD in Natural Sciences from the University of Kassel (Germany). He is an urban climatologist mostly focused
on applied research using both measuring and modelling techniques.
In 1999, he joined Tecnalia (Environment Department) where his work focused on atmospheric pollution. He took part in and was responsible for a great number of studies related to meteorology and air quality (atmospheric pollution diagnosis, evaluation of air quality, modelling pollutants dispersion (traffic, industry), meteorological analysis).
In 2007, he started projects on human biometeorology focusing on urban issues which added thermal comfort to his air quality expertise. He has worked in different urban spatial scales, analysing effects of vegetation, and urban morphology and typology. These are considerable aspects in the context of adapting urban areas to climate change and improving their liveability by integrating thermal comfort in their urban design.
He first joined the Cooling Singapore project at the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) in March 2017 and has been working part-time at the Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC) as a Senior Researcher since February 2019.
