STP Workshop 2018: The Future of Work
The 3rd Science, Technology and Policy Workshop brought together students from ETH Zurich, MIT, NTU, NUS, SUTD and TUM to explore how science, technology and policy are shaping the future of work.
The third edition of the Science, Technology and Policy (STP) workshop put the spotlight on science, technology and policy issues related to Industry 4.0, namely: artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, robotics, and governing disruptive changes.
Over 16 to 20 July 2018, STP participants were introduced to topics related to the implication of industry 4.0 on the future of work, education and skills training, and on governance. The five-day workshop brought together graduate students from NTU, NUS, SUTD, ETH Zurich, TU Munich and MIT to jointly explore the role and impact of science and technology in public policy, and to contextualise this understanding based on the realities in Singapore as it plans for the future.
These 35 students attended presentations and discussions by the government agencies, industry and academia, as well as visited AI Singapore, BASH, Land Transport Authority, SUTD iTrust, Urban Redevelopment Authority, NTU, among others. The ride on an autonomous vehicle developed by SMART was one of the highlights. Their findings, analysis and recommendations were presented on the final day of the workshop.
The workshop was jointly organised by the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC), Singapore MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), and TUMCREATE (established by Technical University of Munich). It is hosted by the Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE), a programme under Singapore’s National Research Foundation.
